The liner notes specify which music was in which episode (scene-by-scene!), but I suppose that some of the content was collected in the other sets. Other composers mentioned in the selections for this series include Bach, Mahler, Handel, Grieg, Chopin, Haydn, Wagner, Rachmaninoff, Mendelsohn, Berlioz, Stravinsky, and Schumann.

Hunted down all the tracks for the Legends of Galactic Heroes soundtrack. I don't know if it was the data on the disks themselves or Gracenote that had the problem, but when I ripped the disks to Winamp the titles didn't all match what was on the liner notes. The liner notes were right tho'.
Dunno if there are any fan sites that keep track of this sort of thing that are current. I may just put my track listing up here if anybody is really interested.

--And wound up buying. I suppose that means the economy might actually rebound.
THERE is a stall at the Kodak Flea Market, one that trades in comic books, action figures and other such memorabilia. What I brought to sell is unimportant.
What I bought is two anime soundtrack CDs: Idol Defense Force Hummingbird and the third part of Legends of the Galactic Heroes TV series. In the process of uploading the content to my computer. It'll take a while; the LOGH soundtrack set is three disks!
The seller has a couple milk crates worth of anime CDs for cheap. Initial D, Ex-Driver, Urusei*Yatsura, Orange Road, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, game soundtracks...
And they're cheap because, as I noticed when I opened the packaging, they're Taiwanese bootlegs. I suppose I get what I pay for.
FP
PS: On the LOGH content...as those of you who are hard-core otaku may know, the overwhelming majority of the music for the show is symphonic classical, which means my decades of listening to local NPR stations' afternoon programs is "paying off"--somewhat. (What do you mean we don't have any Shostakovich in our CD collection?--Guess I have to look it up in the Encyclopedia if I have any hope of spelling that correctly.) I can read kana...but figuring out classical catalog notion when it's rendered in kanji is a challenge. At least all the numbers are "Arabic" Numerals.

The following is excerpted from a real discussion on the Disciples of Zor (Robotech fan club), starting September 3rd, 2001: ME: I hear the bizarre news out of South Africa about the "Race" conference and wonder what might happen next. ( Read more... ) REV PREZ: The threat of global war, as popularly defined by security and defense analysts a decade ago, has dropped significantly with the inability of the former Soviet Union to pursue a conventional campaign into Central Europe and the general stability of the nuclear situation between the US, China and the nuclearized former Soviet states.
Major war, generally defined as a conflict between a major power and a reasonable well armed minor power or more specifically a conventional conflict between two states, is still a huge problem. Right now, there are three main axes for major war -- in the Mideast between any of the usual suspects and/or the United States; East Asia between China/Taiwan, DPRK/ROK-US, and Japan vs. a number of small polities.
[September 11th] ME: Welcome to the major war, Prez. You made the call.

Fangs Of The Sun: Dougram--one of the main sources for Battletech and Robotech--model kits for the latter. Some of which I still own, but I digress.
( Animated Clips And A Trailer And Model Kit Promo Video Behind This Cut! )
The rightsholders for both Robotech and Battletech are headed for yet another legal face-off soon because the trailer for an upcoming video game of Battletech included a Mech that was very similar to the Warhammer, which came from the Macross (Robotech) TV series that Harmony Gold USA has exclusive copyright and trademark rights to in the United States. This legal battle has been going on practically since the day Robotech first appeared on American TV and Battletech's first edition box set was shipped to game stores!
 "Warhammer"
"Destroid Tomahawk" in Macross, became "Excalibur" in Robotech

In this case, Gundam into Classic Battletech.
I've been pouring over the Tech Manual and trying to see how some of them would work. And even though the latest generation of CBT has some real sweet hardware to play with, it's tougher than it was back in the late Eighties when I started.
* Land-Air Mechs--GONE. So no alternative modes for Zeta, Double Zeta, Re-GZ, Victory, Wing, Wing Zero...
* Shields--GONE. Loads of mobile suits have these.
* Massive Melee Weapons--IMPRACTICABLE. By the latest rules, Mechs bigger than 40 Tons can't pack Hatchets, and bigger than 80 Tons can't use Swords. They all can use Retractable Blades, but there's no way of making those nastier except using Triple-Strength Myomer. Even though it's possible to make a Deathscythe Hell with Stealth Armor and Improved Jump Jets...why build one if you can't mount that Big@$$ energy sickle?
There are other pieces of hardware available to BattleArmor units that aren't possible on Mechs, and I have to ask "why not?" every so often.
My original plan was to concentrate on Mechs of 60 Tons or more (in keeping with the UC evolution) but I may have to start from 40 Tons just for the Wing and alternative-continuity mobile suits.

The name change of the Sears Tower in Chicago brought on yet another bizarre piece of pop culture nostalgia.
Around the end of the 1980s the action figure craze and the laser tag craze met head on with the series Captain Power & The Soldiers of the Future. As a tie-in to the toys and the quasi-interactive TV series (written by future Babylon 5 emperor J. Michael Stracynski!), there was a trio of anime VHS videos produced by the studio that also made many of the cool shows of that era--A.I.C. Plus, ARTMIC (of Mospeada, Bubble Gum Crisis, and Gall Force fame) handled much of the design work, so the result nearly transcended its game roots.
In the second tape of the set, the heroes are forced to raid a landmark in the middle of a ruined Great Lakes city known as the "Tower of the Seer".
I guess if they made it today, it would be the "Tower of the Willies". I'm sure fans of It's Walky would get into that.
MISSION COMPLETE. CHECK YOUR POWER POINTS.

Yesterday was the first day in a long time that I failed to post a Livejournal entry. Kind of busy today. Knoxville Scale Modelers, running around Knoxville with Aleks, and so on.
As a postscript to the entry about Gatchaman toys:
( Is This A Trailer? Looks Like One )
While at the HobbyTown, they had the '80s Muzak on and I heard Devo's "Peek A Boo" for the first time since it was a hit. I wanted to have the Vending Machine of Awesome present it, but 1) Warner Music is being a snoid about the studio version 2) the studio video isn't exactly "safe for work". Nothing wrong with the song tho'. I want Jeffster to perform it sometime on Chuck's coming season because it practically screams "Intersect"!

The Japanese toy manufacturer Art Storm is set to release a set of diecast vehicle toys based on the hero machines of the classic anime series Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, known better here by the titles Battle of the Planets and G-Force (no relation to the new G-Force movie about espionage gerbils). My interest is in the two fighter jets: the G-1 (belonging to the Gatchaman team leader) and the Red Impulse (belonging to a non-team character whose relation with the team is a plot spoiler). According to the website, they're about 6" long. (Battle of the Planets was one of my favorite shows in my adolescent past.)

They're cool; they're perfect; the better-looking than I could imagine--and they're hella expensive.
I had just healed myself from the heartbreak of the Mellowlink action figure/motorcycle set! Blarg!

As said previously, the fact that there is still tabletop Battletech being played in the area has resparked my interest. And, of course, leaving well enough alone isn't easy for me.
For the last three years, Bandai has had a gashapon product series called "Strategy of Gundam" which presents the best, coolest, most butt-kickin' Mobile Suits in 1/300 scale--the same scale Battletech is played in! So the lion's share of these pieces can be used in Battletech if there are compatible in-game 'Mechs the figures can proxy.
So I'm working on that. The basic premise I'm working from are 'Mechs 60 tons and heavier with jump jets and upgraded technology (either recovered Star League/Inner Sphere or Clans' non-OmniMech designs).
The Bandai pieces are prepainted and only need a quick assembly to be ready for use...
I wonder how the dude on the other side of the table would react if I came with a Gundam Deathscythe Hell in my forces...

( Hagane No Oni )
The video behind the cut is the climatic action sequence of Hagane No Oni ("Steel Demons"), an anime by the creator of the Iczer series, Dangaio and several other notable anime shows. Two good buddies are forced by circumstance and mecha mojo to take the sides of evil and not-necessarily-evil and duke it out against each other.
I've wanted to see this for about twenty years.
