( Plenty Of TMI HERE. )
Things will not be easier for us, but the season is looking less gloomy than it did yesterday. We still have one heck of a Grinch to fight and tame, but now it looks like we can do it.

Okay...so I read This Yahoo! Article and notice Hey, I have some training and/or experience in ALL those fields--but not enough in any SINGLE field to get anybody to hire me. I guess that makes me a Slack of All Trades.
And I'm planning on going back to school...having no idea what will come of it, if anything.

--And wound up buying. I suppose that means the economy might actually rebound.
THERE is a stall at the Kodak Flea Market, one that trades in comic books, action figures and other such memorabilia. What I brought to sell is unimportant.
What I bought is two anime soundtrack CDs: Idol Defense Force Hummingbird and the third part of Legends of the Galactic Heroes TV series. In the process of uploading the content to my computer. It'll take a while; the LOGH soundtrack set is three disks!
The seller has a couple milk crates worth of anime CDs for cheap. Initial D, Ex-Driver, Urusei*Yatsura, Orange Road, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, game soundtracks...
And they're cheap because, as I noticed when I opened the packaging, they're Taiwanese bootlegs. I suppose I get what I pay for.
FP
PS: On the LOGH content...as those of you who are hard-core otaku may know, the overwhelming majority of the music for the show is symphonic classical, which means my decades of listening to local NPR stations' afternoon programs is "paying off"--somewhat. (What do you mean we don't have any Shostakovich in our CD collection?--Guess I have to look it up in the Encyclopedia if I have any hope of spelling that correctly.) I can read kana...but figuring out classical catalog notion when it's rendered in kanji is a challenge. At least all the numbers are "Arabic" Numerals.

On this weekend devoted to consumerism and gluttony wrapped in a veneer of family-based sentimentality, I'm trying to look beyond to the consequences. Last night, the PBS World channel showed an episode of Independent Lens called "Objectified", about industrial design and its challenges. One of the important points from that program is the fact that most objects today are made for the 10% in this world who are "Haves" and are often designed in ignorance of the needs of the 90% of the world who are "Have-Nots".
I realize that I definitely am a "Have" and as such am in true ignorance of what it means to be a "Have-Not". But I'm sure that everybody reading this also understands that I don't want to experiment with "Have-Not"-ness just for the sake of understanding my fellow man and empathizing with him.
The Internet itself, and everybody who uses it, is by definition a nation of the "Have". There are NO voices from the "Have-Not" camp anywhere to be found, and chances are they would not be welcome. So the politics of the Internet mean nothing to the rest of the world. But at the same time, the power of the Internet can be used to make many many more people into "Haves" if it is used intelligently. I personally don't think I have the power or the resources to do any good for the "Have-Nots" in this world, but at the same time it shouldn't hurt me to try thinking in their terms every so often.

Back from Sevier County. Found what I want to buy everybody for the Holidays...but not sure how many I'll have to buy for. :/ So I don't know if my budget is going to work at all.

Some of it is already done but I did not plan it as such. Today I hope to reconnoiter Sevier County and see what may be available, as a buddy wants to shop here and I want to show him the best places. But my usual habit is to wait till after my birthday (December 15th) just to avoid overdosing on the crowds and the panic and the awful holiday music and kitsch.

Anybody else notice that money now comes with an expiration date? "Best SPENT by January 1, 2010"?
It's even on the nickles and dimes.

The trouble our trees have brought us this week was evidently the last straw for Dad. He just took delivery of a second-hand mini chainsaw. I believe there will be some very loud therapy going on at Rather Manor soon.

My coin collection includes $5.10 (face value) in Canadian coinage...including a penny so old it has King George VI on it instead of Q.E.II.

My current Pilot Precise black-ink pen is almost dry and I'll have to get new ones soon.
Tho' I have a bunch of other such pens that have suffered a similar fate: they're still technically good, they're just out of ink. Part of me wants to just get ink and refill them myself, and save some money; the other part realizes that I don't spend enough on pens to justify the fooling around. Pens are relatively cheap these days. *shrug*
A writer needs good pens. The freebies from the bank don't cut it.

...Or "Been There Done That"? I forget.
Next year, NASCAR's Busch Nationwide Grand National series will look very different. The Car of Tomorrow will be legal--but not the same as the one for the Winston Nextel Cup cars. In Nationwide, Ford will run Mustangs (sadly, mutated ones with sedan rooflines rather than fastbacks!), Chevy will run Camaros, and Dodge will run Challengers. (As opposed to Fusions, Impalas [replacing Monte Carlos] and Chargers in Nextel.)
Now, the news that Dodge will run Challengers interests me because my buddy Paul's little shop (of horrors) makes the following little beasties:

And so these + NASCAR colors = big hit sales!
The problem is that only one team that runs Dodge in Nationwide uses the same sponsor and color scheme for every race: Penske. *Shrug* Research addiction has its downsides.

I just took a quick peek at New Astrology but decided not to repost the month horoscopes here. The Archer said I should be free to travel; the Horse said I should be richer--I personally don't see either happening.
And the clocks change. And the family may or may not reunite today. And I look at another uncertain week ahead. Whose side is time on, anyway?

...or Santa Claus Has Left The Building.
The smallest of the three Christmas-All-Year-Round stores on Route 66 is history and another business is moving in. Noticed this on my way back to Rather Manor after visiting Aleks in hospital. (More about him later.)
The economic pundits are saying the recession is over on Wall Street and the recover will filter down to Main Street in a quarter or two. Well, what I see is that small businesses are still failing, and people are still being put out of their jobs, and there is no relief for the desperation of the workers whose jobs are in a precarious day-to-day state.
The pundits are counting on the Christmas buying season to pull everybody through. It won't work if nobody has money because nobody has income.

Sagittarius Horoscope for week of October 22, 2009 The average middle class person alive today has more goodies than the kings and queens of times past. In fact, even during this time of economic retrenchment, most of us have a higher standard of living than 99 percent of all the humans who've ever walked the planet. In pointing this out, I don't mean to discount the suffering of those who've lost their jobs and homes. But I think it's helpful to keep our collective deprivations in perspective. Similarly, I like to remember that no matter how much our personal trials may test us, they are more bearable than, say, the tribulations of the generation that lived through the Great Depression and World War II. Keep this in mind, Sagittarius. As you wander in the limbo between the end of one chapter of your life story and the beginning of the next chapter, it'll really help to stay conscious of how blessed you are. Halloween costume suggestion: a saint tending to the needs of the dispossessed and underprivileged.
This is a point I've made repeatedly in the past.
Green Grass And High Tides Forever Castles of stone, souls and glory Lost faces say "we adore you" As kings and queens bow and play for you!--The Outlaws

Does Not Compute. The local businesses here are all branches of big ones (yay living near an Interstate highway interchange!) so if I want to do business with a small fry I have to go into Knoxville and ferret it out. What little guys there were here have mostly bit it from the recession.
