( Border Break! )
A new Japanese arcade video game that looks very MMO-ish. With the current state of console games these days, is a MMO like this possible now?

Does anybody who reads me get their Internet connectivity from a satellite dish? I've noticed that there are about a dozen companies that offer this...but the first one I found (which will remain nameless here) seemed to be incompetantly or fraudulently managed and prone to leave discontented customers in its wake. I'm sick of being stuck with dial-up service all these years, but there don't seem to be many alternatives out here.

--And wound up buying. I suppose that means the economy might actually rebound.
THERE is a stall at the Kodak Flea Market, one that trades in comic books, action figures and other such memorabilia. What I brought to sell is unimportant.
What I bought is two anime soundtrack CDs: Idol Defense Force Hummingbird and the third part of Legends of the Galactic Heroes TV series. In the process of uploading the content to my computer. It'll take a while; the LOGH soundtrack set is three disks!
The seller has a couple milk crates worth of anime CDs for cheap. Initial D, Ex-Driver, Urusei*Yatsura, Orange Road, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, game soundtracks...
And they're cheap because, as I noticed when I opened the packaging, they're Taiwanese bootlegs. I suppose I get what I pay for.
FP
PS: On the LOGH content...as those of you who are hard-core otaku may know, the overwhelming majority of the music for the show is symphonic classical, which means my decades of listening to local NPR stations' afternoon programs is "paying off"--somewhat. (What do you mean we don't have any Shostakovich in our CD collection?--Guess I have to look it up in the Encyclopedia if I have any hope of spelling that correctly.) I can read kana...but figuring out classical catalog notion when it's rendered in kanji is a challenge. At least all the numbers are "Arabic" Numerals.

Last week news broke that Khan was going to show up soon in the Star Trek movies, and I think it would be a good idea to brainstorm actors we might want to see in the role.
Viggo Mortensen?
Johnny Depp?
Sean Bean?
Antonio Banderas?
Who acting today can carry off the combination of menace, panache and (let's be honest here) studliness that Ricardo Montalban had in the role? Your thoughts.

My current Pilot Precise black-ink pen is almost dry and I'll have to get new ones soon.
Tho' I have a bunch of other such pens that have suffered a similar fate: they're still technically good, they're just out of ink. Part of me wants to just get ink and refill them myself, and save some money; the other part realizes that I don't spend enough on pens to justify the fooling around. Pens are relatively cheap these days. *shrug*
A writer needs good pens. The freebies from the bank don't cut it.

Numb3rs star Rob Morrow said on his Facebook account tonight:
(CBS) pulled us back to 16 eps from an original order of 22. not a good sign. but, we're not over yet. we need a big write-in campaign. ya'll have to get everyone u know to blitz the network with unrelenting letters. keep numb3rs alive....xxoo, rob m
If you're a fan of Numb3rs like myself and want to see the show continue on Friday nights, write a letter or postcard to:
Nina Tassler, President CBS Entertainment 4024 Radford Ave., Room 3118 Studio City, CA 91604
I know I will!

Have you any idea how difficult it is in these parts to find a suitable peaked cap to convert to a Fifty Mission Crush so I can cosplay Blackhawk or the Sky Master? I've been trying for YEARS.

1) Enough munchies 2) The "horse collar" travel pillow
I'll arrange for replacement munchies, and somehow survive without the pillow. Done that before.

And so I unbased my 'Mechs and vehicles (see previous LJ entry) and did a little research (as if I could help it). Of the 'Mechs that are "new to me", I was able to find data at sarna.net for Arbalest, Cougar, Havoc and Solitaire, but they don't have much about the Gambit, Mjolnir or Ursa types. Of course, any info from the public who are more intimate with Battletech/Mechwarrior would be very welcome to me.
I used to have a system for porting MW/Clicky pieces to CAV system simply on what information was included on the Clicky bases themselves. But I'm not sure whether I want to bother doing that now. I'd sooner do a port to Heavy Gear Blitz, as that looks to by my main system in this scale now.

The Gamer Bazaar at the HobbyTown today was a disappointment, especially compared to the previous such event there. Then, it was packed with people buying and trading; this time there were eight or nine of us.
I sold more than I bought in cash terms but got more than I sold in product terms. But I brought loads of stuff I was sure would sell but didn't.
My main haul back to Rather Manor was a bunch of Mechwarrior "Clicky" pieces, including one of this type:

Which brings my tally to three of them.
More to come.

A sort of postscript to This Very Old Post: I've been going over Rapid Library with a fine-tooth comb since I noticed that they have a huge load of old Maly Modelarz content. The main problem is that the folks who have added these files to the Library didn't bother to identify their contents, or did so in a confusing manner. That and there's no way to sort the search results. So I've been cross-referencing what I've seen on screen versus hard copies from various sources.
A lot of this content, I've already downloaded from other on-line sites. But others haven't been seen in years and I'm wondering if I should scarf them now for future projects.

Unfortunately, my dreams have never been THAT specific in terms of my vocation. The facts have not been kind to my role models in that regard either. My folks have been telling me that if I'm going to achieve a career that has any meaning to me, I'll need to invent a completely new industry and be the first employee. I suppose I've been working toward that goal from grade school. PS: Got my annual notice from Social Security today. It turns out that even if I had been declared to have a major mental health issue by my psychoanalyst two years ago, I STILL would not qualify for a full disability from the Government because of the fact that I have been out of work for too long and haven't paid enough in payroll taxes.

An Old Theme Of Mine and I want to revisit it again.
If there were such a thing as a Capri today from Mercury it would have to be based on the Milan; the Milan is the smallest car they make and the choice of powerplants nearly matches in spirit what was available in the Capri. The Milan's wheelbase is about half a foot longer than the Capri's so that will have to be altered, but that can be done between the aft corners of the front door frame and the rear window/rear fender front line.

Since we are going from a four-door to a two-door configuration, the flanks of the cabin can be reinforced on the sides for better rigidity and stability. We might even expand the engine compartment a little for more powerful drivetrain hardware.
You could accuse me of reinventing the Mustang--and you'd be partly right. But it's relatively easy to just rebadge a Mustang. It was tried TWICE by Mercury, and neither time was particularly successful. I want to take the sports coupe concept in a direction that I know would work.
Of course, my own sandbox is too small to play in. Born in the Week of the Titan. Hmmph.

That holographic design gizmo demonstrated in the Iron Man movie, when Tony Stark starts building the Mark II suit. But more realistically, I'd settle for a nice e-book reader (~letter size screen!) with a bar code scanner, so when I go shopping I can (for example) see if a product is worth buying or not.
